Tippin' in a Winter Wondaland Cake!

This cake was created for singer, Janelle Monae, and her label, Wondaland Arts Society's, holiday party. Since her single "Tightrope" was just handed a Grammy nomination I went with the theme "Tippin in a Winter Wondaland". Wondaland studios itself is covered with grassy astoturf *i couldn't make this up, lol* so i went with snow covered grass as the backdrop to this cookies and cream filled chocolate fudge cake. The "tightrope" is tied to two holiday topiaries made out of Rice Crispie Treats and fondant. The black and white George Esquivel shoes that Janelle and her band "tip" in were made using Rice Crispie Treats and fondant.

Princess Tiana Birthday Cake and Princess and the Frog Cupcakes!

This cake was done for a client whose daughter, Kennedy, was celebrating her 6th birthday with a "Princess and the Frog" theme. Fondant covered french vanilla cake with chocolate "rocks" and sugarpaste Tiana. French vanilla and red velvet cupcakes with hand made sugar paste toppers.

Fly Like a G6 Cake!

This cake was done for a client who was celebrating her birthday with the theme "Fly Like a G6" and wanted a G6 private jet as her cake. We made her G6 jet using french vanilla cake with butter cream and fondant icing and hand painted her company logo on the side. The finishing touch was to add a hand sculptled figure of the birthday girl herself holding a champange bottle walking down off the jet :)

This cake was done for a client whose friend was turning 30 and wanted an Armani Exchange watch for his birthday gift. Strawberry cake with fresh strawberries and cheesecake filling. Buttercream icing with fondant ribbon and sugar paste watch and gift tag.

Princess Dora the Explorer Birthday Cake with Cupcakes

This cake was done for a client whose daughter, Channing, was celebrating her 3rd birthday. She told me her daughter loved Dora and Boots, princesses, rainbows and unicorns :) She wanted to remain budget conscious so we kept it simple by using buttercream icing and adding some hand sculpted pieces and fondant accents. This is a great example of our level 2 buttercream cakes. The cake was french vanilla and the cupcakes were red velvet and cinnamon swirl.

Baby Gift Basket Cake (2)

This is another baby basket cake done for a client who saw the first one and fell in love with it. She was throwing a baby shower for her sister, India, and requested that the cake include the phrase "Made in India". This cake was pink velvet with cream cheese icing covered in fondant. As with the first cake, the baby doll and bottle are made from Rice Crispie Treats while the baby book, pacifier and teething keys are sugarpaste.

The Making of....ATL AF1 Birthday Cake

From time to time I'll be posting "The Making of..." pictures and video to give an inside look at how i bring some of these cakes to life. I've been meaning to do it for a while but it's just been really hard for me to stop while I'm in "the zone" to snap a picture ;) I usually spend on average about 10 hours on each cake...i know, but it's truly a painstakingly detailed process. All the more reason why i wanted to start posting "The Making of..." so that you can really see all that goes into this edible art. Enjoy!

This cake was done for a client's boyfriend who relocated to the west coast but is still an Atlanta boy at heart. She insisted that it have a "big booty stripper" with an Atlanta theme and i was more than happy to oblige ;)

The sneaker is made of red velvet cake with cream cheese icing covered in fondant. The stripper with money, chain and gold grill are all hand scuplted from sugar paste and 100% edible!
